International Foundation for Research in Experimental Economics (IFREE)
Honors Workshop in Experimental Economics
A weeklong workshop introducing high school honors students to experimental economics. More than an academic exercise, students learn economics through direct experience. At the end of each day rewards are paid in cash, creating a strong economic incentive akin to real markets. Topics covered are at the advanced graduate level. IFREE reports that experimental economics has become a "unique instrument for demonstrating - even to skeptics - the efficacy of decentralized market and incentive solutions to economic problems." The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the 2002 Nobel Prize in Economics to Director, Vernon L. Smith for his pioneering work in experimental economics.
